So, who’s ready for spring! Fort Wayne, like most of the United States, is still enduring the great polar vortex of 2014. Hopefully it subsides soon and sunshine is just around the corner, but in case it doesn’t, here are some tips to keep you and your loved ones safe this cold winter.
Before the Next Storm Hits
Before the next forecast of 6-12” of snow and below zero temperatures, make sure you’re prepared with the following essentials:
- A good supply of rock salt to melt snow on your driveway/ walkways and weigh down your car to improve traction
- Snow shovels
- Adequate clothing and blankets in your home and vehicle to keep warm
- Keep your vehicle’s gas tank full
- Have at least a 3-day supply of food and water
During a Winter Storm
- Stay indoors as much as possible
- Don’t overexert yourself shoveling snow
- Walk carefully on snowy, icy walkways
- If you must drive, travel in the day with a charged cell phone and keep others informed of your schedule
- Keep water trickling in your sinks to prevent frozen pipes
Simplx Can Help!
Wireless freeze sensors (https://www.simplxsecurity.com/products/) offered by Simplx Security guard against wide-ranging damage due to undetected freezing. Furnace failure can cause frozen and burst pipes, and big expenses.
